This link is to an album of pix taken on Sunday The 17th of August, 2008.Third and final day of the Festival of Sail. I actually had time to get on board a couple of the 13 ships that were there. We had a “private” tour of the Eagle and I stopped for a little while on the Bounty. This is the ship used in the 1962 film “Mutiny on the Bounty”.

Nice pics, thanks aknotter. Sounds like you had a great time.

Here’s a wood carving story about the USCG Eagle (there are a few knot pictures here as well). Hope you enjoy it:

Skyout, Thanks for the wood carving article. Very good information & beautiful pictures. Wood carving is another activity I would like to become involved with. Maybe I’ll take it up right after I master the overhand knot ;D???

Glad you liked it. That guy does some amazing work.

They are both good for forgetting your troubles, but with knot tying you only have to worry about sticking your finger with a needle! ;D

I have played around with some carvings of dolphins and eagles on the end of wooden dowels and want to put some knots with them in a knot board. This is a work in progress, eventually the eagle will be on one end and a dolphin on the other end with possibly some THs and/or different hitches between them. They are only carved on one side as the other will be close against the board, thus never seen. Let me know what you guys think!!!

I think both look great! But, for now, I’ll stick with knots, I think. As you suggested, too many sharp tools with wood carving. ::slight_smile:

Thanks aknotter.

I did something similar to what H.G. Smith did when he took his daughter’s sheepskin lined jacket and ripped it apart for a substitute baggywrinkle to cover the spreader tips on a race boat. The blue eyes on the dolphins were ground down from the costume jewels on my daughter’s Diva t shirt. She actually took the pics above and commented, again, “I can’t believe you took those off my shirt!” ;D
