I actually used the one pictured on the page I’ve directed you to. Still do, occasionally, although at nearly 3 Rachel is getting a bit too big. I also have a white one for spare. They carry up to 35lb weight - if I can :
Rebozos (Mexican babyslings) are kind of a giant scarf. To my surprise, when I used it recently I knew more about knotting, and was surprised that a sheet bend wouldn’t hold, but my (don’t laugh, or have a fit!) “trusty” reef knot did. They’re not long enough for a complex knot.
They are a wonderful way of building a relationship with your baby, and anyone wanting to know more about that part of my experience is welcome to message me.
As you’ll see from the main menu, there are also slings which do not require knotting to use.
Do you find that the sling digs into your lower neck area too much, or does the distribution of the sling over a wide section of the shoulder makes it easy to bear for an hour of use?
My sister also used a sling like this when her son was already rather big, and he would sit on her hip with the sling around his bottom and back.
So the weight would be spread between the hip and the shoulder/lower neck.
And because he was suported by the sling, my sister had her hands free to do other things rather than just hold the boy.
Roo - It is easy for the sling to dig into your neck if you don’t spread it evenly over the shoulder. You learn with much practice how to do it with just the right amount of material to be comfortable, but not so much as to hamper the use of the free arm. Of course, that depends on you being upright. I frequently used it in bed, to keep my baby safe whilst I fed her. If I had to choose again, I would probably use one of the wraparound ones (they didn’t do those 3 years ago) and one of the rebozos.
Willeke - Yes, it can give you some great advantages in doing housework - right up until you suddenly discover you’ve got 3 hands doing it ;D
I saw a video of these being tyed on ‘youtube’. The knot was a Lakshead tied around the standing part. The woman demonstrating it was going on as if she was teaching you the secret of the Universe.
