History and Science of Knots

History and Science of Knots vol 11 by J. C. Turner and P. Van De Griend.

Is this worth buying?

Anyone know it?

I have seen the book, even looked in it, and never bought it.
It is very much about the science.
And I found it very expensive at the time.

It might be your kind of book, but try to look in it before spending a lot of money.

I bought it. It’s the kinda thing I enjoy. It’s not cheap. It’s just the kind of thing that you should be able to get through interlibrary loan. I think if you look it up from the publisher web site and/or Barnes and Noble’s web site, you can get a chapter listing which might help with the purchasing decision.

It is one of my 10 most used books - yes it is expensive but for the infomation it contains and bearing in mind that it is an ‘academic’ publication then compared with some tomes it is not that dear.
My two offspring clubed together to buy mine as a birthday present.
One day I am determined to read it from cover to cover, not just use it as a reference book.

You ask this, and in some other thread there is no question about the latest
(this quarter’s ? ) Budworth book and folks are off w/o question for that!?

H&S is the current best book one can have on its topic
(because, in part, there is no real competition, and so little “science”
done, or published). You should recognize many names of its many
contributers. It’s handsomely done, physically, too.
And, compared with, say, The Handbook of fibre rope technology,
it’s a steal!

Thank you for the information on this, I think it just went on my Christmas present list!

Do any of you know if the other 10 volumes are available, and anything about them?

I believe they are. I got the symmetric bend book as it was the least theoretical of the bunch. Real knots tied in real cord. It’s a nifty book as well.
