I’ve only looked at the first 8 pages of guests (30 names per page), when there were 717 (by now there’s 699). The vast majority are looking at Dfred’s NASA post and the subsequent discussions. A few are looking at other topics. I don’t know how word got out, but it certainly has to be a Forum record: it’s currently over 43,000 views!
Thanks, I could not understand how it could be, and I had not noticed all those views on the thread by dfred, and the resonance it has had in the media.
For the the rest I imagine a some sort of “NASA(l)” conjunction, i.e. a new era in which a number of engineers and various technicians of NASA read this thread to learn new ideas to combine input communication s edge technology with the dear old knots!
It sure did! I started getting bandwidth warning texts from my server while attending a Labor Day picnic on Monday. It didn’t take too long to determine the cause of the traffic.
Not sure exactly how it started, but it looks like it was posted on both reddit and Hacker News late-Sunday/early-Monday. Apparently it took several hours for these items to get popular enough to start producing significant traffic, but by late-afternoon Monday (EDT) they were. Unfortunately my server logs mostly only contain referrers from igkt.net where the images are linked, but the Guild’s server logs would no doubt contain much more detailed information as to what sites were driving the traffic. As noted elsewhere, it was also picked-up by a few media outlets during the day yesterday.
Thanks, Glenys. I’m glad the Guild and knots in general are getting so much exposure. It’s interesting to read people’s reactions to finding out about the Guild’s existence, and that there is actually an internet forum dedicated to discussing knots. (There’s a forum for everything!). I was also approached last week by a representative of the Planetary Society to rework the write-up into a more standalone form for posting on their “Planetary Blog”. That should be happening soon, if all goes well.
