How many familiar knots are known by different names?
For example
Figure Eight Knot, Figure-of Eight Knot, Flemish Knot
or
Overhand Knot, Thumb Knot

Is there a preferred name for these knots?

I suspect nearly all knots are known by different names;
on top of that, many of those names are associated with
different knots (“turnabout is fair play” ;D ).

And then there is the non-specificity of what exact geometry
is intended, irrespective of name!
