I have noticed that a large percentage of those knots are not overhand knots, as one might have expected, but fig.8 knots. This is an indication that the symmetry of the fig.8 knot is appreciated even by not knot tyers… They sense that the overhand knot, in its common form, is an ugly knot - and I guess that its nice symmetric shaped “8” form, or the elegant Strangle form of the double overhand knot, are unknown to most of them…
