Looking for help identifying a knot

Hello IGKT!

I am new to knots, and was hoping someone here could identify this knot that I learned while on a horse riding trip. The woman who showed me the knot doesn’t know its proper name and I would like to find out what it’s called/what kind of knot it is.

I’ve attached an image

Any and all info is much appreciated!

No one? Nothing? Anything? Please help!

Hi svea.

I don’t have anything definitive with names or numbers, but it looks like it is a “toggled” hitch using the formed bight as the toggle.

It looks like a basic overhand knot, tied with a bight with some weaving into a leg of the turn.

Not all knots have names (proper ones) or ABoK identifying numbers.

Perhaps someone else will join in with additional info.

Thank you SS369!!

Hi welcome to the forum,

the rope work there shows as , A High post Hitch

Good day KnottyNick.

Where do you find this information please.
The High post Hitch/Highpoint hitch I know of is not the same thing to my eyes as the OP hitch. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highpoint_hitch

ABOK page 304 if I remember rightly, it was the closest I could find to this hitch, I’m probably wrong on it but has same use .

I don’t think that this is a recognised hitch as such. There are as many ways of tying a rope at right angles as there are people to tie them - most around the notion of a slipped overhand/half hitch, as SS369 says this is what this appears to be. The tying sequence would help but it’s likely to be idiosyncratic.
