this is a nice mat that i have found. it uses a lot of rope, but that generaly isn’t an issue. anyway, it is tied using an extra loop compared to a more basic triangular one in the completed picture. the knot is very simple to tie, and besides being somewhat tempermental about being distorted, is a very nice looking mat. i had figured out how to tie it before i knew what an overhand knot was called. so my question is does it have a name, and why do i never see it tied? i think you can figure out how it’s tied, just do the most instinctive thing possible.

It does look different to other mats I’ve seen: but I’m afraid one person’s instinct is another person’s puzzle. It depends on what tying experiences you’ve had 
I couldn’t work out how it was tied. Please could you explain t me?

So, you start with an overhand knot and then use it to make two interlocked loops. From here take the long end and wrap it around the other end, then over under between the loops around it repeatedly
