Here is the sword knot from my officers sword. I purchased the sword in 1965 upon completion of OCS. THe sword was a major expense at the time. I think I wore it a total of 5 times in 3 1/2 years.

As a former grunt, I reckon 5 times in 3.5 years represents a good return on the investment. You would have looked as flash as a rat with a gold tooth while wearing it. And you got to keep the sword!
