So we have to tie banners of 8x12 on our college building. We insert metal rods in the sleeves of these dropdowns and tie the nylon rope on each side of this metal rod.
usually i use multiple number eights on top of each other and they hold the weight but is there another knot which can be more helpful and secure?
will backhand hitch or Icicle hitch carry the weight of such a heavy dropdown?
Important factor is that we use Nylon ropes on Metal rods and hence it slips, therefore the knot should be tight and secure. Thanks

Well, you posted in the decorative section, and why not …

A turks head will work nicely. Just let the ends exit in the middle of the knot for the weights. As for tightening, be sure to do it in small steps. But you can get it pretty much as tight as you want.

As a bonus, maybe you can clothe they weights with a monkey fist.

Am I right in thinking that you have a sleeve at the top and one at the bottom of the banner so that you have 2 horizontal metal poles - one supporting the banner at the top and the other providing a weight at the bottom? If so then presumably you have 2 ropes, one attached to each end of the top pole. If that is the case then I would either make 2 long slings and place a 3 wrap Prusik to each pole end or make a long loop (a bowline would be good as the tension is continuous) in each cord and use this end loop to make a 3 wrap prusik at each end.

I currently have a 15mm diam. copper tube suspended vertically in my garage via a Prusik with only 2 wraps. The tube is bent at a right angle at the bottom and holds a heavy roll of paper (a half hitch with the doubled cord near the top of the pipe keeps it vertical).

If the bottom pole of your banner may slip out then a Turk’s Head at each end would be a good idea.

If my assumptions are wrong then perhaps you could post (or link to) a simple diagram?

Sweeney, you were right in your assumptions and thanks a lot!!!
I’ll surely try your method out. 😃 😃
