?! In Bends Chart 07, top row, center two
images (1st two after leftside showing of basis),
are the same (“overhand loose bend” & “false lovers knot”).
Why the two images, then? --is it perhaps to be shown
(in full : I looked only at the immediately visible page)
as differing in capsizing/not/dressing, as for 781 and
Ashley’s bend (1452) pair of also-identical front-page images?

(Don’t interpret this to mean that I’ve looked all over
and this is my sole question!)

Thanks,

Hi Dan,

Thanks for your comment. Here are the points that I want to explain, perhaps you would suggest the appropriate ways in naming them.

In ABOK,
#798, #2418 all named True-Lover?s Knot are lanyard knots and fancy knots as classified. They are equipped with a loop. We get two forms of this knot (one in the mirror form).

#2301 True-Lover?s Knot with bows extracted. Tied from the base knots #798, #2418. We get two forms of this knot (one in the mirror form).

#2419 Sailor?s Cross is the knot with bows extracted. Tied from the base knots #798, #2418, same configuration of #2301. We get two forms of this knot (one in the mirror form).

#2302, #2422 both named False-Lover?s Knot and are fancy knots equipoed with a loop and bows extracted. It is tied from a base knot which is based on #798 or #2418 with the Overhands reversely interlocked. I do not find Ashley has named this base knot. There are six forms (three in mirror forms).

In my folder,
#798, #2418 True-Lover?s Knot - I remain using this name to denote the bend appearance. That is by cutting the loop of #798, #2418 in ABOK, it becomes a bend with two WEs pointing to the same side. I do not find Ashley has included this knot/bend in ABOK.

Overhand Loose II Bend - though with the same tying methods of #798 or #2418, the
SPs are pulled directly opposite and the WEs are pointing to opposite side. Not safe for use but it serves as a base knot for some other bends.

#2302, #2422 False-Lover?s Knot - I remain using this name to denote the bend appearance of this base knot. That is by cutting the loop of the base knot of #2302 or #2422 in ABOK, it becomes a bend with the WEs of the Overhands pointing to the same side.

Overhand Loose Bend - though with the same tying methods of base knot of #2302, #2422, the SPs are pulled directly opposite and the WEs are pointing to opposite side. Not safe for use but it serves as a base knot for some other bends.

#781 Two-Strand Diamond Knot is a lanyard knot with the SParts parallel to each other.

#1452 (aka Ashley?s Bend) - By some tying methods and capsize the finished knot of #781, it comes to this bend with the SParts pulling apart.

Spherical X Bend and Teepee Bend - they have the same configuration in flat form. Some tying methods will lead to the Teepee Bend (tightened form of Spherical X Bend) and some need capsizing.

Some knots from ABOK have been included in my folders because they are bends by nature and some appear in side-by-side parallel SParts. While pulling apart the SParts, they are bends.

yChan (et al.), unless an unsymmetric & rather unseemly
knot was intended, in Chart 10 (October 2021),
the “Crown Zep Bend” --2nd row from top, rightmost knot–
is wrong. The first revision I thought of --not keeping in
mind that this is a BThrun’s bend (Zep.) symmetry–
is that the arrow finishing pointing upwards should
cross UNDER as its last Xing. (gold line)
But, to be symmetric,
then this end should turn around the lower part and
work its way out … , well, as has the purple-colored
line’s end has done.

Hi Dan,

You are right. I have sketched it wrongly of this Crown Zep Bend. The yellow WE should be passed under the blue line in the final exit. It is my fault, You may refer to my presentation of this bend in “My New Bends”. I have revised the Chart 10 accordingly. Thanks to Dan.
