calligraphic swash as mat knottery ⚛

i love calligraphic swash
and, as it is often a monoline form,
it can translate to acceptable mat knots :atom_symbol:

here are a couple of drafts.
calligraphic ornaments lack formulaic description,
so i’m not familiar with any existing nomenclature,
so for now it’s ‘round mat’ and ‘long mat’.
many a half hitch feature in the mats,
when in calligraphy we would’ve just called them ‘loops’ :spiral_notepad::pencil:

The 2 lobe version of your long mat is a plum blossom knot (梅花结). Found an extended plum blossom knot (怎样自己编结中国结梅花结(加长款)) and a further extended plum blossom knot.

Your round mat looks to be in the family of woven rope friezes (here’s the paper).
