Cat's cradle style knots

I know that there are many intricate designs made with cat’s cradle style loops, and a whole host of knots that are made, but I have never heard them called knots in a knotting context, nor are they in abok, or any other knot manuals that I have seen. I have seen several dedicated manuals on various knots of this style. What are our feeling about these, and does anyone know much about these?

So, in the realm of these knots, there are other bodies that publicize them, and work to create these knots.

Still, it strikes me as intriguing that all of these beautiful figures can be made without use of any ends of a rope. The art seems so much more complex, and I imagine we could learn a lot from observing their methods.
