Chinese/Asian knotting family tree

I was having a train of thought yesterday that completely derailed into the weeds and thought perhaps some guild-folk might have useful and constructive thoughts on the topic.

Trying to shrink the image into 100KB made it completely illegible, so here’s a link out

diagram key:

  • squares are a concept
  • diamonds are a process or filter
  • circles are a type of knot
  • triangles are one particular knot
  • dotted circles are knots that are not traditionally part of the Asian decorative knot canon.

notes:

  • flower hoop are THK
  • flat knot is macrame (solomon bar)
  • corn sennit == crown sennit
  • the mat area is completely stupid and needs fixing. 8)

whoaaa, i think you have it covered,
i’ll take your word for it!,
you certified knot nutter [a term of endearment],

it looks great
i wonder if it could be made radial,

that is a knot board with a difference,
i don’t see any weeds,
just complete knot nuttery on your part,
it is a heck of a chart,
Ashley would drop his fid and fountain pen

i had fun getting sort of hypnotised into it

it’s a beauty, as we would say in Australia
and, as i would say, (((((gonggg)))))

carry on

happy new year,
happy new knot chart,
(looking-up calendar…)
for possible publishing 10 Feb 2024,
er, that is, you, KnotMe
somebody has to !

I do have plans for feb 10th, but I have had similar plans for the last 5 years at least and each time dates have come and gone with no result. This year I have an org-mode document with schedule dates and everything. We’ll see if it makes a difference. 8)
