Coiling excess rope at the end knot

There are several coiling and Daisy chaining methods for rope storage. But what’s an elegant way of coiling the excess rope at the end knot?

The best I can think of is an upside down gasket coil, with the rope coming out of the last knot forming a gasket for the rest of it, coiled. Is there a better way?

Depending on how much surplus beyond the knot, I generally tie a Heaving line knot.

Hi mcjtom,

I use this method with ratchet straps, but maybe it could be adapted to rope depending on the situation?

The part I am referring to starts at 7.12, hopefully I have it set to start there.

You possibly wouldn’t have to do the first step as you wouldn’t need to secure that coil of rope quite that much.
Funny that I haven’t tried it with rope myself but use it with ratchet straps.

It would also depend on how much rope you were dealing with.

Thank you - great method for the trucker hitch!
