Decorative knotting conference in Vancouver 2008, wanna come?

For those that don’t already know or didn’t know many details, I am putting together a decorative knotting conference in Vancouver, BC, Canada mid-2008. This event is being organized by IGKT-PAB (http://igktpab.org/). The time has come to ask you if you would like to come. There’s only so much organizing one can do without knowing how many to expect!

We are bringing knotting experts from various Pacific rim countries together with Western luminaries of decorative knotting. Already we have Korea’s living cultural treasure of maedup, Eunyoung Kim, interested in coming and teaching. We have also have a statement of interest from famed jie yi author Lydia Chen of Taiwan.

We believe that this will be the first event of it’s kind held outside of Asia. We have also invited various of your fellow IGKT members as well as artisans not typically found in Knotting Matters to lecture and teach. And, perhaps, you?

We are thinking about late May, 2008.
Would you be interested in coming?
Would you be interested in participating as a lecturer or workshop instructor?
Would you be interested in participating as an exhibitor or vendor?
Would you be interested in coming if the conference fee was $50 (Canadian Dollars) or less?
Would you be interested in coming if the conference fee was $50-100?
Would you be interested in coming if the conference fee was $100-150?
Would you want the conference fee to include workshops or want to select and pay for workshops separately?

Please pass this information along to anyone you think might be interested (especially those offline! :sunglasses:

I can be contacted by email at wangc@chineseknotting.org to answer any questions you might have.

Thank you for your attention.

Carol,

That sounds like a lot of fun. I’d definitely want to be there if things work out. I generally have a convention over the last weekend of May, in Orlando, FL, so when you say “late in May”, are you talking about maybe the third weekend?

I’d have to fly out, which I hate, but this might be worth the sacrifice…

Loren

I would like to come, and I might even be able to.
If so, I will certainly bring some things to show, I might even teach a little, but I am not sure that will be enough to say yes on these questions:

Would you be interested in participating as a lecturer or workshop instructor? Would you be interested in participating as an exhibitor or vendor?

Seeing how much it is going to cost to travel, and stay, the actual cost of the meeting is going to be less an objection.

I wiould most certainly like to attend. After all, it’s only a hop, skip & jump from Regina. The conference would give me an opportunity to meet and learn from people with the same interest in Knotting as I have.

Thinking back to my visit to Vancouver years ago, I remember the Chinese gardens very well.
Maybe they would like to be involved in some way, if even just for PR or a visit.
