Does anyone know this knot and can tell me the proper name of it?
I put an extra loop in my double overhand and this seems to have solved a problem I’ve had with the normal version breaking:
- Form a loop (normal)
- Loop a second time (not normal)
- Finish the double overhand (normal)
It doesn’t set very nicely with soft rope but for slippery material - the stuff I’ve been having problems with (fishing line, nylon guitar strings) - it provides extra diameters for the bending.

Hello, Lexando, and welcome.
I am curious where and how you were using this knot to replace what I presume was a single overhand knot. Are you using it as a stopper? A hitch?
There is a topographically equivalent anchor bend in the Ashley Book of Knots (ABoK #1843 – image below), but of course this is used to tie a line to an anchor or ring.

Hello James, thanks for the quick reply.
I’m using this as a stopper.

The (rather ugly) solution I came up with at the end of that thread (4726.15) is flawed and broke after several months.
