FALCASA ?

Hello all,
In 2000 I was aboard the Portuguese tall ship [i]Sagres[i]. Many of her lines had the ends finished off in a conical fashion. I am not completely certain, because of the language barrier, but I believe that it was called a falcasa. Has anyone heard of this or seen it? Does anyone know how to tie it or know of a source I could reference?
Thanks

Do you have any picture?

I wish I did have a picture. Maybe I’ll have to somehow make contact with someone involved with [i]Sagres.[i]

I have been aboard the Sagress when she was on show in Amsterdam, during the event Sail 2005.
I can not see any ends that have been worked, any fashion, but for the one with tape still around it.
Some of those photos can be seen in my yahoo albums, (as long as they still work,):

Photos number 0599 till 0623 are taken when aboard the Sagress.
I have a few more not on the web, if you can describe it better I might be able to spot it, (but the best rope and knot photos taken there are in Yahoo.)
I have bigger versions on each photo at home, so if you want to have a better look, send me an e-mail and I will send you the big version. (7 megapixel, so only a few per mail.)

Thanks so much for the photos. As you stated, what i’m looking for was not in them. I looked on Sagres’ web-site and saw some tapered rope ends in the background of some photos, but there was not near enough detail to be of use. Someone suggested I may find the answers in Ashley, pgs 562-563. I hven’t had a chance to get to where my copy is yet.
Thanks again

You may also look the page 564 of ABoK. I think you mean pointing rope work. There you find some great ideas!

regards

Marcin

Hello, perhaps this link can help a bit if you are looking for a rope pointing.

Good luck!

Thanks much Marcin and Scott. I won’t be where I can look at my ABOK for a couple of days. Fig. 103A on the gutenberg site is similar to what I saw on Sagres. Seems like it might be possible to find it after all.
Thank you,
Jay

Thanks to all who offered direction.
Nautile, I apologize that I was unable to reply to your personal response.
I have finally got the chance to look at ABOK. It does look like what I’m after is on pages 562-564. However, I could not seem find the same rope pointing that I saw on Sagres. I’ll try to contact someone connected with the ship to get a photo that I can compare with ABOK.
Many thanks,
Jay
