I’d be interested in what kind of cord was used. That is a kickin :o frame. I just love bein knotty.
Now he just has to find something worthy to be put inside the frame. Not just anything can be put in there either. It has to be worthy of that frame first.
Would there be any chance of getting hold of a load of detailed photos of this work, it is the sort of thing that the Guild should be proudly archiving, together with some words from its creator on why, how, technique etc.
Skip is working on the photos for you but, I have to tell you, we’re going to be lucky if we see anymore work from him. Two weeks ago he was bitten on the left thumb by a spider and the bite nearly cost him his thumb. He is still in a fair amount of pain and cannot use his left hand due to the swelling and tenderness Doctors opinions are still out" on whether there will be permanent nerve and tendon damage due to the infection!
Geez! Why does this sort of crap happen to the “real people” in the world? You just don’t know how fortunate you are until you hear of a true disaster like this.
I know you’ll all join me in wishing him well and understanding if the pictures and tutorial are delayed!
That is a disaster for the poor chap who was bitten - I’m sure as you say we all wish him well. As a confirmed arachnophobe who nearly dropped the last KM when I opened it I do really feel for him. Let’s hope he gets better and soon - such beautiful work must continue.
He does commission work mostly. Usually for galleries to frame an existing picture… as you may imagine, his fees are rather steep but (although there is a bit of a hiatus right now) he keeps getting recurring orders and mostly supports himself that way.
Hawaii ain’t cheap, neither!
Nice to see one of us making a living at this silliness, ain’t?
Well, to answer that one, I don’t know, but it’s now a moot point. Skip resolved the “Family Issue” and is now back in Kauai, enjoying the balmy breezes and sudden downpours.
On the health front, good news, there… he has some feeling back in the thumb, although he’s re-teaching himself to knot with an appendage about 12% larger than it’s mate! Doctors are of the opinion that it’ll stay about that size for the duration. (Too bad he doesn’t live in Blighty… a large left thumb there would be ideal!) I’ll be speaking to him again tomorrow by fone and will ask about the possibility of doing up a tutorial for the basics of picture framing. I’m sure that with a good basic tutorial, the talent assembled here will take off and excel as always!
At any rate, it was good to hear from him and with such positive news about his hand… I truly feared we had lost another talented person to the fates!
For those in the US: I’ll be in New Bedford at the “Working Waterfront” Festival (Sept26th and 27th… anyone from New Bedford area want to get together, PM me and I’ll come up on Friday early!) and also plan to make the New Bedford IGKT meeting in October… I should have a frame from Skip by then and will bring it along to both venues for “droolage” purposes.
Vince, that is such good news. Let him know we’re all happy and hope his recovery continues, hopefully fast and complete. I’m really looking forward to his tutorial, too. That would be awesome.
I wish I could make it New Bedford but there is no way. Hope you have a great time and take some pics for us.
