Harrison Book of Knots

Does anyone currently have this book and what do you think of it? I have found a couple of different copies at decent prices and wondered if I should spend the money. None of the books are less than $40.00 US so it would not be a cheap investment. Just wondered if there were any opinions out there to be shared. Good or Bad. Thanks.

It depends what you want to learn from the book, it has some very good knotting with a lot on bellropes and turksheads. I am in the UK my copy (ebay) cost me about $14. I have used it quiet a few times to help with tying, but I am a great lover of books, so just the pleasure of reading it made it worthwhile.

The copy you have oldpete does it have a white jacket, if yes can you tell me the ISBN number please, I would love my own copy of this book.
I am in the UK

Thanks

Stew

my copy has a coloured cover (no jacket), ISBN 085174 346 3

I have The Harrison book of Knots. The ISBN ISBN 085174 346 3 with a colored cover, published by Brown, Son & Ferguson.
I had an earlier edition, which did have a a white dust cover, and gave it to a good friend.

I agree with prior comments. It is excellent for bell ropes. I consider it an important part of my collection of books on decorative knot tying.

Thanks for the input everyone (oldpete & pspiering). If I could have found a copy of the book for $14.00 then I would not have hesitated or asked for any opinions but the prices I am finding range from $40.00 to $200.00 US dollars. I am always looking for a good decorative knot-tying book to give me ideas and instruction. I feel like it would be worth my while to add it to my collection. I keep hoping to find the teacher who teaches turks heads in a way that I can easily follow. I love them but struggle with them. So far the best one that I have found for tying a long turks head that I get right every time is Cyrus Day Lawrence in his book ‘The Art of Knotting & Splicing’, Specifically #227. This is my nice and long-winded way of saying thanks for the replies and I am going to get myself a new book. Have a great day everyone.

If you want a book for decorative knots could I recommend @The Ultimate Book of Decorative Knots’ by Lindsey Philpott. A great book of 600+ pages. My copy is priced at US$ 29.95. I bought mine directly from Lindsey but you will have postage from the USA. {I would warn careful with some of the photos, on some there are black lines that are shadows from flash i assume but you quickly get used to that, it really is a great book}

If you want a book for Turk’s heads, then I would consider Tom Hall’s book. Ron Edwards book, Simplified Turk’s Heads is very good. It can be found at Ramskull Press in Australia. They have
A nice web site. It is hard to find anywhere else.
