Help in doing a tassle

Here’s a gent in mid-eastern Indiana with a request for help with making a Civil-war era tassle.

I’m up to me t*ts in tax returns!

Mr. Brennan,

I have been desperately seeking help trying to reproduce a blue and white braided wrapping used on Civil War Flag cord tassels. I have appealed to local weavers guilds to no avail as well. I came across your website and saw some items pictured that are similar in principle to what I am trying to do. I do not have any knotting or weaving experience, but I can read and understand directions and diagrams very well. The two links below show the same style of wrapping but you can choose a photo and hover the cursor over a particular part to get a good close up.

I do Civil War Living History and reproduce flags and of course put a lot of work in to it. No one reproduces these wrappings that go over the wood finial of the tassels. If you could help me, I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.

Passementerie is the art of making these decorative tassels http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passementerie. Amazon has several books on the subject. Could not find instructions on line. Tony

Thanks, Tony! Could not for the life of me remember the “technical” name of such things.
