How Do Again All ;)

How Do Again All

It has been a while since Ieft the forum and I have not been enjoying working with rope since my Grandad passed away earlier this year, but I am now regaining my Knotty stoke thanks to a cool group of non knotting friends that have helped me have fun over the last few months.

My website was out of action for a while after switching ISP’s but now it is back up again under a new name here:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ropeandcanvas
I have updated it as much as I can at the moment and I will be adding new stuff as and when I have time.

This is the first thing I have tied since May and a new start I hope.

Welcome back Barry.
We missed you!

Willeke

Hi Barry,

Hard times. Was your Grandad involved in knots at all? I learnt so much from my Grandad that every time I use something I learnt from him, it sort of brings him back to me.

Welcome back with that nice piece.

Derek

How Do Willeke & Derek

Thanks for the welcome back.

Derek; Yes my Grandad was involved with knots, when he was young he worked on a farm and used to make twine with a rope machine for use around the farm, and he also worked for the Port of Barrow-in-furness for most of his life were he did everything from wire and rope rigging on ships, making fenders and towing lines for the Tug Boats, splicing mooring lines and anything else that could be required, as he worked for the port and not the shipyard he had also to do everything from working the dredgers in the channel, maintaining the harbour navigation lights and light house/becons all of which were at one time gas powered replacing the cables on the cranes and also making ready the graving dock (dry dock) for incoming boats.
I really miss my Grandparents as I used to like showing them what I had done or tell them about whereI had been and they would always have stories of their own about related things that I never knew they had done, now that is a big part of my life missing and it is hard to get motivated to do or make the things like I used to.

Willeke; I did post a reply to one of your posts here about the Netherlands meeting next year but the post dissapeared along with my original comeback post here, I am interested in coming as I did not make the meeting in Den Helder last time round.

Take care,
Barry

Good to see you back Barry - so many people have been asking after you.

Gordon

Thanks Gordon, the people asking after me; I don’t owe anyone money do I ? ;D
I hope to catch up with everyone a some point, it feels like years since I went to a meeting.

Take care,
Barry

Sorry to come to this so late, but I, too, want to express my pleasure in your return. I had wondered at the sudden demise of your site and your absence here, hoping it was not due to ill health, and now understand.

Condolences on your loss… Hope to see much more of your work in the future: it is a tribute to your GranDa that his teaching and your skills have produced such excellent stuff.

How Do Vince
Happy new year to you.

Thank you for kind words, mch appreciated.
I am getting back to it slowly but I am finding it hard to be motivated to make new things, I have lists of to do’s mostly things I should have done last year.
I just need to find that excitement I have lost.
I am sure it will come eventually.

Take care,
Barry

Hiya Barry, all wot Vince said +1.

Sad to hear your news. You know, having not been emotionally close to most of my family, I always think it is wonderful (in a way, hope you know what I mean) when people do miss their grandparents so much when they pass on. So many grandparents seem to be cut out/left out of their grandkids’ lives these days.

I have been planning my ditty bag for some time and I too am glad to see your web site back so I can leer at all yours. ;D

Thanks Madeline

I look forward to seeing your Ditty Bag when you get round to it.

Take care,
Barry
