Re our fellow members in US sending samples---- anything would be very welcome but the lenders need to be aware the venue is not high security. We have this small plastic display cabinet that Lynn uses to store/display her shell collection, and I have used at previous festivals. It has a poor lock but a length of cord or two wound round and tied elegantly is not out of place. 99% of viewers are honest, but small, pretty, portable items are a great temptation. The area is patrolled at night and I always leave my big stuff but carry my tools in and out each day. Last year they found a guy asleep under the counter of the beer tent next to ours. Another method I have used is to have some stuff like lanyards, bell ropes, fobs in a ditty bag and I pull them out when chatting to people— there tends to be a lot of chat. Also used picture frames with stuff sewn to board and hung them on the tent wall. Latest trick is having the whole zoo sewn onto my hat— looks b silly, but gets a laugh and pretty high exposure and security. So that is the position at this time------- all care but no guarantees.
.
So, in summary, it would be terrific to have examples from our colleagues, and I would be glad to receive anything.
So if folks are OK with the fact that security could be an issue (we’ll do our best and there should be at least four of us, I think we’ll draw up a roster) then Frank would be delighted to showcase your work.
If you’d like contact details, addresses, or to discuss further, send me an e-mail. I may take a day or so to get back to you as work is a bit frantic right now and I seem to be flying out of town at least twice a week and don’t have access to my personal e-mail through work Internet/e-mail channels.
(I am pleased to know that the IGKT stand is appropriately and conveniently located next to the beer tent … I think … :-\ )
I should mention too that I have a beaut little pineapple knot key fob in Australian colours made for me by Fairlead and a bracelet by Bob that will go on display with the other bits and pieces.
Apologies for the delay in doing so … I came down with flu the day after I got back and things are all a bit out of control just at the minute, but I hope to put together a brief report soon!
The short version: busy-busy-busy but highly successful, Festival organisers took particular note of the IGKT group and are keen to have another such group next time.
