IGKT-PAB volunteers needed urgently for April 22nd/June 9th 2012

Dear All

I’ve had permission to extract this information directly from the minutes of the last PAB meeting, but I think the overwhelming tone is one of: would all volunteers available in the next week please take one step forwards… (unfortunately I’ve been confined to quarters with a particularly severe virus for the last 10 days, so my apologies for the short notice):

  1. Lawndale, CA; LA county Public Library. On January 28, 2012, we will be teaching a
    group of teenagers (15 to 20) how to tie a Dragonfly Knot or possibly a Solomon Bar bracelet
    (or both). A volunteer or two is/are needed to help.
I'll do it all on my own. (15 - 20 teenagers? ??? ?help)

2. We received a request for our participation in Ventura Harbor during their hosting
of tall ships Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain. The event starts on Jan.24 and lasts
through Feb.2. I know we will not be able to attend the entire event, but we hope go have
some members willing to sacrifice a day or two.
~~~~~Neither of our members in the Ventura area can make the event.
3.   Then on Jan.29, We will be displaying our collection (& our expertise) at Cabrillo
Marine Aquarium?s Whale Fiesta.  Volunteers needed for this also.
~~~~~No one actually committed to attend this one.  I can't go, so
we will just hope to get a/some volunteer(s).

4. Pending ? Mar.1 ? Whale of a Day in Rancho Palos Verde. I have sent a message
requesting information regarding our participation in this event. No response yet.
~~~~~I will follow up with another e-mail request. If I get nothing
from that, I'll call.
5.   We have received an invitation to participate in the STAR Eco station?s Earth Day
event on  Apr.22.  I have replied in the positive and will soon get the required paperwork
to them.
~~~~~We have participated in this one day event for several years
now, and we always have a great time. We have a couple of months
before I have to start bugging for volunteers.

6. Another request for our attendance in Ventura Harbor on Jun.9. The event celebrates
National Marina Day. Another event where volunteers are needed. At least we have some
lead time with this one.
~~~~~No action taken as yet.
Thank you all,
Thanks Glenys,
Jimmy and I have been keeping our end up, along with help from some others, for a while and we could really use the help. We keep our chins up but it is becoming more difficult when my boss (me) keeps telling me to get back to paying work and not to be bothering with non-paying (well, paying in a satisfaction way is great but it doesn’t buy a cup of tea) work. Thanks for posting!
So that the relevant information is up at the top of the topic, these are the two events which PAB would like help with. I haven’t heard of any changes, but maybe you could keep us up to date with it, Squarerigger?
Here is a change that has occurred with the PAB’s event this weekend - Jimmy’s wife Codie has taken a fall and has some broken bones that are now healing through surgery. Jimmy needs help - I’ll be there for him this weekend as will some of our other stalwarts. My thanks to all of our Branch for your indefatigable enthusiasm and to our wonderful members for their support of what we do for the children. Feel better soon Codie!
