My account was hacked and then transferred to ‘Godaddy’.
I have complained bitterly to Melbourne IT and to Godaddy.
Each entity has take the view that "there is nothing we can do’.
Words cannot describe my feelings at the moment.
If there any IT specialist out there in IGKT - and who could help me restore my domain name ownership rights - I would appreciate your help (or just give me some advice).
I have also lodged a complaint with the Australian Telecommunications Ombudsmen.
Mark,
I’m sickened by this news. Every empathetic bone in my body bleeds for you man, having some idea of how much work you’ve put into this project over the years.
Please let us know how we might help and support you.
I sent you a PM earlier - you might also like to contact these people http://www.auda.org.au/about-auda/ - this is the domain name registrar for .au domain names who are the Australian Govt approved body. They should be the ones to handle a complaint rather then the telecomms people.
Thanks Barry, I have followed your advice and lodged complaint with auda.org
I have also contacted the police cybercrime online reporting network (ACORN) in Australia.
…
Words cannot describe my anger over this incident.
I had invested considerable time and effort creating the paci website and all the knotting resources. A lot of my intellectual property was made freely available to the public.
Its all down now - and nobody (including me) can access it.
I’ll advise when something positive occurs - eg the police force Melbourne IT and Godaddy to take responsibility and restore ownership of my paci.com.au domain back to me.
All is not lost. The content from your site can be scraped from the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. I can give it a go myself if you would like. The most recent crawl by the Wayback Machine was on August 15, 2015. We should be able to get everything from that date. After we have all the content from that date, I would think you could view this as more of an inconvenience, rather than a total catastrophe. Chin up.
So my fellow IGKT members can download knotting resources from my site again…
It was the auDA Australian domain authority who finally forced Godaddy to hand over my paci.com.au domain name.
As soon as I got control over my domain - I immediately changed the ‘name servers’ and everything was pointing where it ought to and all is back as normal.
All I have to do now is transfer my domain away from Godaddy - I do not recommend Godaddy to anyone and they did nothing to right the cyber crime until they were forced by the Australian domain authority.
Thanks to all who offered advice and assistance - it was very much appreciated.
Good news in the end. What was astounding was the rapid response of people here who knew how to get some or all of your stuff back. I would just have burst into tears.
