Hi All new to the forum. While I have some free time I practice tying knots just for fun, learning new knots and their practical uses. Yesterday I was playing around with a carricks bend and threw the beginning part of a bowline and then added a part of the Carrick in with it. Here is what I ended up with: https://youtu.be/uTzCLWcld5c Not sure if it is a new knot or if someone may have some info on this, would love to find out! Thanks DJ
Hi DJNaff and welcome,
I think about it as a loop, better, as an eye.
I don’t know if the knot is already known as you tied/showed it, but if you tuck the tail (not as you do but) through the collar parallel to the returning eye-leg you obtain a nipping loop and a Cow Hitch and this is known, similar (maybe better is the nipping loop and the Clove Hitch as you can see here
http://igkt.net/sm/index.php?topic=3020.msg17965#msg17965 ).
Your knot is a nipping loop and an Italian (Munter) Hitch and it can be easily transformed into an Eskimo Bowline (just move the eye through the collar).
Hope this helps.
Ciao,

Thanks for the info KNOTSAVER! Well, its parts aren’t new but I gave it a make-over! lol I was really impressed with its ability to not jam, regardless of side loading, unlike the standard bowline. If you get a chance to mess with this loop some, you can see that it is adjustable in size when unloaded. Thanks again for your help in showing me what types of methods were being used to make this loop knot.
Cheers!
