Japanese fish net floats

One of my sailing buddies was beach combing here in the Pacific Northwest, and came across a glass Japanese fish net float. He cut the mass of line and barnacles off of it, and now would like to get it tied in the traditional way that it would have been tied to the net. I wish I could have seen the line he cut off of it, but alas, it is long gone. Does anybody have an idea of where I might find resources of what kind of line is used, and what the traditional knot is? A photo would be of immense value.

Hi, I am feeling pretty slow this evening, coming down off AGM: but the links did not get me knots but got me advertisements for books on knots. Did I miss something here? It is sort of as if I trashed my popup blocker and wanted to see all the stuff that “knots” would bring to my screen. Patrick, all the knots I have seen on beachcombed floats are netting knots. Of course it is my weak suit. I do not beach comb. Dan L. is on the wrong coast but I’ll bet he has a tutorial site in mind for float knots. I am suprised Dan C could not show some float nets directly without reference to a book. Yepum, Edwards is a fine beachcomber and I use his books often… but how about an internet link to an electronic source.? I have covered floats for fun with ABOK 3791 and the netting of kinship from that chapter , it looks way cool. I find it is the same as the stuff I found on the beach… but isn’t the definitive answere to be found on the boat; not on what washes ashore?. Once more my poor spelling is at task for I can not spell chck my post. Often I do not post to IGKT for I come off sounding like an idot.

Thanks Dan, That is a very clever way to search for and post pictures. And please accept my apology, I intended to say I was supprised you “did not provide a link” not that you “could not”. If there is anyone around who can find things and share accurate information it is you.

…they look nice on bellropes too!..
