Johnny Come Lately (The New Kid in Town)

Hi Folks

Allow me to briefly introduce myself. I joined the IGKT end of last year as an early Christmas present to myself.

I found my way there via Geoffrey Budworth’s book The Hamlyn Book of Knots, which I’ve owned for a few years.

I live in sunny Auckland, the biggest city in New Zealand. My interest in knots is a little quixotic given that I don’t sail, climb, fish or do much else requiring knots, but I did move out of the suburbs into the country a few years ago and that has presented some opportunities for practical application. Initially though I was just fascinated in an aesthetic sense by the elegance and intricacy of knots. I find them absorbing to learn and relaxing to practice.

I have a particular fondness for bends - perhaps because no additional gear is required, just two ends of one piece of cord.

I’m quite weak in hitches, so that’s probably where I’ll focus my attention in the short term, since they are what I most often need on the property.

I have lots of questions, but this post is just to say hello. I’ll spend a bit of time familiarising myself with the board first.

John

Good day John and welcome.

There have been a few new kids in this town, so don’t hesitate to ask or share.

Thanks SS369 (A fine old family name with a rich heritage).

I hope to learn a lot and one day perhaps help a little.
