Knot chat!

You can open the chat from the main site, following this link: http://www.igkt.net/chat/index.html or to go to the chat you can also click on the knotchat link in today’s calendar events, on the general page of this forum.

If you have problems to get in the chat, for whatever reason, post a message here. While the chat runs we do keep an eye out to this place and might be able to help you immediatly.
If that is not posible this is still the right place to get those problems sorted.

The chat will be open from now, for at least the next 5 hours.

We had a good amount of people showing up yesterday, but there is always space for a few more. So if you think about joining use next week do so, or just try sometime during the week and maybe someone else will join in too. (You can post here when you are in, so people know to come to the chat.)

Willeke

PS,
It seems that the forum was having problems from almost the moment that I posted the first post in this thread, so I hope you have not been having problems with the chat and this site at the same time. If so, please tell us about the problems with the chat.

We have problems using the Java applets for Knot chat. We have Java on all the computers (3) that we have tried. Java and Javascript are enabled in all cases. The same computers are capable of opening other Java applets on other sites including one for a chat room.
Any thoughts on a solution?

Michael

Michael,
I do not have a solution, so I hope that Mel or Gordon read this, they know more about the system than I ever will.

Willeke

hello Michael…
…what browser are you using??..i use Firefox and i have no problems at all…there is also Internet Explorer, Opera, etc…
that may help??..also perhaps some virus guards or firewalls or pop-up blockers may stop you from entering the chatroom?..there is a “help” at everywherechat.com and that may help…whatever is stopping you from getting into the chatroom i am thinking it is a minor problem that can easily be fixed?..

The most common reason for this type of problem is either a firewall or anti-viral software (especially Norton Antivirus).

I’d really need a better description of the actual problem before I could help - including your browser and operating system. However, you could try turning off any anti-viral software or temporarily disabling your firewall and see if that helps.

Further experiments since my original post have shown that the security software here is blocking the operation of the chat room. This appears to be for a valid reason as there is a problem with certificate dating on everywherechats software.

In other words, it’s your firewall.

This appears to be for a valid reason as there is a problem with certificate dating on everywherechats software.

I’d only describe that as a valid reason if your standard Internet security levels were set to very high/restrictive because you were operating a computer in a semi-public area (eg a library). For general surfing at home, a lower level of security (medium) coupled with good up-to-date anti-viral software and a modicum of common sense should be more than enough.

There can often be minor inconsistencies within security certificates etc. that do not, necessarily, mean that that there is anything wrong with the site. However, security software, being somewhat dumb, isn’t in a position to make these sorts of judgements. A human being is really needed.

I’d consider reviewing your security/firewall settings to either prompt you whenever it finds something it considers to be ‘suspicious’ with a given certificate so that you can decide whether to proceed on a case-by-case basis. Or, if you can, enter everywherechat.com into your Exceptions list so that it will ignore the certificate inconsistency for this site only.

Mel

As usual, the knot chat will be open today too. From now for at least 5 hours.
See you there,

Willeke

It was a nice bunch, yesterday, but we have space for more people coming in. And if Sunday does not suit you, post (here or somewhere else) that you are on, or will be on at a set time and I am sure that someone will come in.

Now I think about it, every Wednesday there are some people on the chat. I do not know the time, maybe one of them can post that here.

Hello fellow knot tyers,

Knot chat on wednesday evening is hosted by me. I am usually there from 20.00h - 22.00 h UK time. The end time is often much later…

Due to the fact I am about to move house I will not be able to host the wednesday knotchat for at least the next two or three weeks, perhaps somebody else can host for me instead.

take care

Its SUNDAY KNOT CHAT DAY AGAIN - Come an join us

Gordon

Knot chat today was my first time trying and, after a couple of mis-steps, I got on with it OK - thanks for making it available! I am looking forward to seeing more participation and maybe even some more thoughts about our Mission statement…
See you next Sunday

Lindsey
PS Gordon - so sorry I missed you, but the sailing was great - “see” you next week!

Even at Easter Sunday there is a chat. The normal people may come in at different times from what they normally do, but the chat will be open normal times.

Willeke

How Do All

Sorry I could not join you all for a chat last night, I came down with a really bad migraine :frowning: I think it may have been down to the Chocolate I should not have eaten:-[
didn’t enjoy it any way.
I will be there next week.
