Knot to fasten a laundry bag

Hi, new to the forum. I recently sewed myself a laundry bag and it has a channel for a drawstring. I’ve put a bit of parachord through the channel I made for it and I’m struggling to find a knot that I like to fasten it.

I’ve tried a taut-line hitch (ABOK 1855-57), but it leaves something to be desired. It leaves a long tail when the bag is drawn tight, which I could fix by bending the two ends of the rope together, but then that loop will have a “wrong side” to pull, which isn’t ideal. I also don’t like that I can’t pull on the loop to open the bag, which you could with those little plastic drawstring holders.

So if you have any suggestions for knots that are nice for making a drawstring, it’d be much appreciated.

Hi fp.monkey and welcome.

While in the service we had laundry bags with a drawstring. What I did was to tie a large stopper knot on each end. Then when I drew the bag tight I would tie a slipped loop (slip knot) against the closure. I could use the loop as a handle as the two stopper knots would keep it securely closed and shorten the tails into something useful.

Just an idea..

Hey thanks for the tips! This pouch knot inspired me to try a doubled-up taught line hitch, which did exactly what I wanted.
