Knotmaster Program (for Boy Scouts)

A friend pointed me to this link which describes a Knotmaster Program, a progressive skill program for learning different types of knots. We think we might bring it to our local Boy Scout troop.

Reading through it, I think I could manage about Level 4. I suppose that’s not too impressive in this gathering! I also thought this might be interesting for some others who are involved with youth groups, Scout groups and the like.

Hello jep49236 and welcome.

Looks like the file link is not any good, at least I can not access it.
Try again or point us to an Internet location.

Though i think there could be more info on some points;
i’ve always thought this would be a great scouting start to discussion of knots young or old.

.
It is of crackly old style, clean, black and white military background presentation;
seems to set the feel and stage for olde worlde tools, arts and practices of necessity;
that should lend well to scouting.

10-2-16 i always wished similar knots would be in same direction and same page for comparison.
i think Square/Reef is one of simplest of lacings;
so gives the simplest lessons, that are inherited thru many of the other knots!

9-24-16 >> Adding drawing of possible scout interest for kids
to keep scouting stuff together, should encourage teaching knots to kids more i think.

Hi!
New to this forum, but old in knot-tying.. = ]
Not sure anyone’s still looking at this thread, but here goes..
I’m a Scoutmaster, and my troop is looking to start a Knotmaster program to help Scouts stay engaged during a time of virtual meetings & uncertain outing possibilities. I’m modifying the Troop 1011 version to fit our purposes, and it looks like it’ll work. I’m wondering 2 things:

  1. Does anyone have this program in a more-easily-editable form? (.doc, .odt, .txt, etc.)
  2. Would the IGKT be willing to put a similar Knotmaster Program together? It could be done so that it wasn’t exclusive to Scouts, but be in a nice guide / manual / booklet format, and could even be a purchasable item..
    Thanks! = ]

@SS369
Thanks for the quick reply! = ]

IGKT is staged to be world wide reference of these things to keep from melting into antiquity.
.
We have Practical, Computer, Science, Testing, Decorative, General, New sections.
We should have a section for kids/scouts, to spread the word at earliest levels and offer on the worldwide stage to any that will listen, inviting them more, make info for this target easily found etc. Helping, leading kids as also seeding own numbers into the future. Other disciplines do this for the next generation, even if doesn’t seem to fit with rest of profile; is still important for them too.
.
Knotting , weaving is fundamental to human evolution of thought, of earliest things folks did to get here. Mental exercises in understanding, perhaps before organized language, or perhaps even walking fully upright. Root, pivotal principles of tool life in their rawest forms to then understand all else by.
.
What if this place was noted as the best compendium of scout knotting resources?
Would there be anything much more honorable we could do from this place, than pre-serve all this to our youths ?
