Intriguing objects, rich in texture and reminiscent of summers by the sea, these knots will spark conversation and inspire reverie wherever they’re placed. The small size makes a distinctive bookend or desk ornament. The larger is hefty enough to prop a door. Made from abaca rope knotted over a rattan core. Small, 6" diam.; 7" handle; Large, 81/2" diam.; 9" handle.
As it is no unique object, (I know about at least 2 others who sell them,) what about adding them to your stock?
One is Des Pawson, no online photos.
The other I only know from photos on the www, but at this moment I can not find the link.
When I find that link I will add it to this post.
Please may I ask - are those Monkey’s Fists tied in the British Admiralty fashion with both ends emerging together (only it’s a loop)? I’ve been wondering how to tie those ever since I first saw a note about it in a knot book a year ago. I tried looking up Monkeys Fist Admiralty, and didn’t get anywhere.
It is in Des Pawson’s knot craft, a book that should have hit the libraries by now.
The trick is in going under two sets of string in between the turns, but it is hard to tell you in words.
If you can not find picture instructions I will try again.
The doorstopper as shown above is also in that book!
Thank you, Willeke. I shall descend upon my long-suffering librarian friend tomorrow during Tim’s swimming lesson. The library service had no idea what it was letting itself in for, opening a library inside our leisure centre ;D
Thank you, Znex, that’s a beautifully done page. Considering the firefighting aims of my 7 year old son, however, I don’t think I will be encouraging him to read the rest of the site until he’s a lot older. Just in case he gets any wrong ideas :
