Knotted Bike - New York

During my excellent weekend visit to New York, I came across this bike covered in knots. Knotting, Macrame, knitting or crochet …who cares, a bit of fun.

Great post Johnny - what a find! Were you able to find out who tied it all?

This type of slightly irony-tinged textile graffiti is a bit of a movement, actually:

That would be me. 8) Pretty distinctively crochet. OK, I’m good now. 8)

I saw the mate to that bike under the Brooklyn Bridge when I was in NYC last week.

A documentary to be about yarn graphitti with a video trailer and informational website

Wow… that’s all I really have to say… wow

And today a NYT article, “Graffiti’s Cozy, Feminine Side”:

I thought the photo deserves a place on this site:

So who’s going to take up knot bombing? I want to see a photo of a street light with a turks head running up it, now that would be clever.

That would require Stormdrane, a few six-packs, and a few spools.

I did my own Knot Bombing a little while ago.

Near me there is a house and hanging by the porch is a bunch of antique keys on a large ring. So I decided to make a rope key fob, then very early one morning I attached it to the ring.

This was a few weeks ago and it is still there, so I assume that the owner likes it. I will get a photo when I next go past.

Two people could French Hitch a post or pole fairly quickly.

You know I bet I could get away with some knot work in broad daylight in the middle of town. Yes I would get people looking and asking questions, but I don’t think anyone would call the cops for a bit of rope work.

You would probably gather a crowd of people, it would end up being a workshop!!

A magnificent example of knot bombing, only not really.

I have been wanting to tie knots on the lamp posts around a knot meeting for ages, like for one of our AGM’s but the only time I could I was so busy with organizing the meeting that I never got around to doing it.
Always a next meeting to dream about.
