I have seen quit a number of knot frames. I really like them but know i still lack the skills necessary for such an undertaking, could anyone share some advice on what knots i should be working on towards that goal? and “all of them” isn’t quite as helpful or cheeky as one might think lol.
Hi Kaysler,
I have a tutorial for one on the Fancy tutorial forum. This one you can do easily in one weekend.

I know some knotters take years to complete one frame.
For frames like you see in ABOOK, working on learning different braids for the sides will help for a start, as well as some small Turks Head matts for corners. KHWW.net has some excellent tuts on braids and TH knots.
The tutorial section here has a tut for the Knot of Honor that would be cool on any frame. It’s a Monkey’s fist and a couple of Turks Heads.
Star knots look good as well.
Dan Alaska’s Pineapple Forum has an excellent tut for the star knot.
Good luck and keep us posted!
Hi again,
Tony posted this flattened Interlocked TH over on KHWW and I thought it would look very nice in a frame.

Here’s his tut for it.

Skip Hipps frames are amazing!
Wow!Thank you Skyout!
I have a lot of info to pour through now =) ty
time to break out the string
It was my pleasure, Kaysler.
There are many here, myself included, that love knot boards and frames, so make sure you keep us posted and post pics along the way.
Skip’s frames are completely wonderful - I just wish I had the time and patience to do something like that.
I know this is a stupid question, but how does one fasten the “extra” knots to the basic frame? i.e. the star knots and those lovely corners on the “wedding cake” frame? I suppose it’s glue? But isn’t that a bit unstable?
Diana.
That’s a piece of cake. LOL
I wish I could tell you the correct way, but I’ve never done one. I guess it could be glue or perhaps they are sewn on or nailed on. Knowing Skip, he probably tied them from the braid under it. LOL Did you see that he back braided the strands in the round frame so there would be no seams or use for a knot to cover the joint??? Amazing work!
