Lee's Super 8 Loop & other nipping structure

  Hi all,
I have an Overhand knot Bowline that can handle heavy weight,
and is easy to untie after heavy loading.
How to dress and tie this bowline--- Dress the bowline the way it is,
and give a good tie on the tail first, and then pull tie on the [s]outgoing[/s] [s]incoming[/s]
           outgoing eye leg.
After heavy loading, the main collar (collar that is near the standing part) should be easy to lose.
And then just pull on the incoming eye leg and the tail. Thanks,

Edit July 21.2024 add another loop here. Have a few quick tests. #1010 is slightly better
           than #1034 half.

… which is known to me as the “Lehman Loop” –from a long time ago,
seeing the Honda Knot as amenable to bowlinesque U-fold completion
(and ditto for many other eye-knot bases).

I think that it’s preferable to have the Tail emerge on the outside,
not between eye legs :: with straight EK loading, it should be
equally secure (i.e., it will hold); but try loading the RELeg vs. S.Part
only, and there can be slippage in the case of the Tail in center.

As for loosening after a load, the problem can be that the OH part
will draw down very tightly and do so with stretching-diminution
of the diameter, closing the OH tightly in this lesser diameter,
and then with tension relaxed, swelling back to normal size
outside of the base knot will essentially stopper the OH and
frustrate loosening.

Hi Dan, can you please post some pictures of your knots? It will be very much appreciated. It is hard to
understand “WRITING KNOTS” !!!.
Hi Chan, I will make a video about how to tie Lee’s Bends. The video is easier to understand
how I would like to tie it.
I have another nice-looking, well-secured, good-quality solid Bend. Hope you like it,
And hope you enjoy all my beautiful pictures. Thanks.

Hi all, here is just another bend. Maybe getting too many materials,
But Twin 8 fits in very well. Thanks

Hi Alan

The ropes crossing of circled part are not the same. Please check and post clear new photos. Thanks.

   Hi All,

   Hi All,
I have this Double Connection Bend(Improve Version) looking good to me.

Hi All,
Here is another Bend that I like. I think there is more to do with the same technic. Thanks.

In relation to your post at ‘reply 45’

Thanks Alan, nicely presented and an interesting variation.
(also ‘TIB’).
An old saying… “Its hard to build a better mousetrap”!
The original #1053 Butterfly is very simple and relatively easy to tie (and can be tied one handed).
To improve on it is no easy task!

I had played with your posted variation some years back - but thought it ‘unwieldly’ but nevertheless interesting.
While trying to re-tie your presentation from memory (without looking at your images as a reference) - I ended up with the variation shown in my attached images.
I have no idea if you or anyone else had previously tied my presented variation?
I am not finding the search function user friendly… searches for Butterfly variations isn’t producing helpful results.

Anyhow, I am using the working title “XT Butterfly” (Xtra Turn Butterfly).
Its ‘TIB’ (Tiable In the Bight) - meaning the knot can be tied without access to any end.
I note Mr Lehman using ‘NSUE’ (a French term), instead of “TIB”, citing issues with the word ‘Bight’.
I’ll tender my new term… ‘MRT’ (Mid Rope Tiable) to add to the vernacular.
I’m not claiming that I invented the term ‘Mid Rope Tiable’ - its been thrown about before (but, it does seem logical).
EDIT
Another acronym for you is “TWATE” (Tiable Without Access To an End).
There you have it… ‘MRT’ or ‘TWATE’
[I can see how the term ‘TWATE’ can be humorously modified!]

Anyhow, I did not post my presented variation in New Knot Investigations - because I believe Alan or Xarax had likely tied it before…

Hi Alan,

Just following on from your work…

I’ve added 3 images (see below).

First image is an integration of F8+Crossing hitch.
Second mage is an integration of an F8+simple overhand knot.
Third image is just showing more detail of the F8 + overhand bend.

I’ve checked through this topic thread - but cant find these particular variations.

I assume that you or someone else will leap forth from the key board and claim them faster than you can say “Eureka”!

I’ve simply been trying to follow a consistent path… starting with a simple F8 as a base.
Then, I try to integrate either a Crossing hitch, or a simple overhand knot.
By following a consistent approach like this, I believe a lot of new discoveries can be made.
I like to use an end-to-end joining knot (ie ‘bend’) as the fundamental base - and then try to derive corresponding eye knots.

I believe that it is highly unlikely that they are original creations (very improbable).

Hi Alan!
In relation to your post at ‘reply 47’, first picture: Bend ? is variation of the Hunter’s bend, where the tails make a twist around each other (are “crossed” = X-ed to each other). The picture (and description) is by Xarax.

  Hi All,
I am glad Kost_Greg created the figure 9 geometry, and I got it turned into a Nice looking
"Figure 9 geometry_ Bend (Improve version)".
For more details, please see the links below.
Getting old health issue started to slow me down.
There is more to do with this kind of maneuvering.

Hi Alan,
Your post at reply #51 actually looks like 2 integrated Crossing hitches.
It is quite interesting - I haven’t seen Crossing hitches integrated in this way before.
Shame its not “TWATE” (Tiable Without Access To an End), but still interesting.

If this was “TWATE” it would be a contender for Butterfly knot replacement…

No, you’ve got it wrong (pretty sure Xarax got it right) ::
Tails exit Over if S.Parts enter x-ing UNDER or vice versa.
(And what you show is ABoK #1426.) The variation is
the better end-2-end joint, w/nicer S.Parts curvature
and more jam resistant. (Harry Asher noted but dismissed
the version --tsk, tsk!)

Hi Dan and all,
I cited https://forum.igkt.net/index.php?topic=4561.msg29537#msg29537. Because all the pictures are not available (I can see only one), I posted that only one. So, I was confused and thought that I was right. Of course, both You and Xarax know better and more.
But, I was surprised that the knot is in ABoK. #1426. Looking at the final results, they seem different to me.
Regards, ZZ

#1426 & Hunter's.jpg

Hi Alan, Dan and all!
I finally found a better picture of Hunter’s X bend, the variation where the tails are crossed. The author (of the picture) is Xarax. That bend was shown by Alan, he didn’t know the name…
Of course, I don’t think I have the last word
Regards, ZZ

Just to share two unique bends here, they are well secure and easy to untie after heavy loading.
They are awesome and beautiful. Hope you like it too. Thanks.
