I have recently been in contact with a Scout that I had the privilege of mentoring in the past. He is now living in the Ketchikan, Alaska area and has discovered the ABOK. He is interested in learning and producing some fancy work. If there are any Guild members in the Ketchikan, Alaska area, please reach out to me if you are willing to meet with a potential new knotter in Ketchikan.

It would be good if your contact can learn and provide
insight to the practical knotting & cordage usage of the
Alaskan commercial fishers --which might take well outside
of anything ABOK shows. (And, he might by some
personal contact be able to garner some discarded cordage
for his own uses, practical & otherwise.)

For sure, he’ll instruct you in the many aspects of sail needles thru the ages, construction of a “Ditty Bag” and the proper method of seaming a sail, but most interestingly, a history of the Swedish Warship, “The Vasa”.
