LOOKING FOR SOME INSTRUCTIONS FOR A BRAIDED CROSS

I remember seeing some instructions for making one of those braided crosses in some book or maybe it was a copy of Knotting Matters. I’m not talking about the carrick bend patterns this was a solid braid. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Hi roundturn,

Pat has a couple of tutorials on KHWW.net. Look on this linked page for Turks head cross 2 versions from Patrick.

I seem to remember another tut somewhere and if I can find it I’ll post it for you.

I’m not sure if this is the type cross you’re looking for but I hope it helps!

Here’s a pic of Pat with some crosses.

Hey, I just noticed your web page! You’re famous! 8)

Glad to help and we’ll be looking forward to seeing your crosses!

RoundTurn,

The cross tools posted at KHWW are fine for #30 line, and maybe even a little heavier line. If you want to make a cross with much larger line than that, you might want to scale up the tool. For the cross we made in the photo that used 7/8" manilla, I used 4" and 3" PVC to make the tool. I also have a tool made with 2" and 1 1/2" PVC that works OK with 1/4" cotton. I am more than happy to help with scaling up any of my grids for large size applications.

Not a “braided” cross, but a Turk’s head cross: http://www.frayedknotarts.com/tutorials/thcross.html provided by Chris Benco.

I just found this one today.
