Macrame Cross Necklace

When I was a late teenager a soccer friend from
Mexico gave me a rope necklace. Here is a picture:

My goal is to make one for myself. I would like to know
if someone would be able to teach me how to do this or
possibly suggest books, websites, or knows of someone
who might be able help me. I am pushing 50, now, and
don’t know how to contact this friend or buy one online.
It doesn’t look like it would be that hard to do and I
would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you, in advance.

Thanks. I’ll have to start playing around, although the weave does look similar, mine didn’t have a hole in the middle of the cross.
