Meetings

I am planning to travel to the French Meeting, early April, and wonder who else will be going.
The same goes for the meeting in England, May.

I would also like to hear about the other meetings going on, and who likes to go to them.
And if you do not go to the meetings, why not.
I can understand the reasons of not enough money, to far away, can not get time off at work, family obligations.

I am looking for the other reasons. The ones the people organising the meetings can change.
So I would like to hear your reason not to come to any of the yearly, bimonthly or monthly meetings.

And would like to hear who is going to which meeting, if posible with a good reason.

Hi Willeke,

Meetings, bloody meetings! I cannot go to meetings in other parts of the world unless they are in a venue that is appealing to the rest of my family and we have enough money and time. Local interest for others has to be there. As for meetings in the same country (here I do have to claim some level of poverty) I can only go to one or perhaps two a year that are not in the same state. In my case in California, I have to limit myself to one or two trips in state, other than local meetings, and the near state ones are essentially a weekend trip with lots of knots for me and something else again for my significant other. The reasons I do go to meetings? At our monthly meetings in Southern California, I like the company, I like to learn about new knots, I like hearing the activites that others have had, I like to be able to have something to relate about my own adventures, I like to garner a few new knots and I like drinking Guiness once a month at least! Why would I not go to a meeting? Perhaps nothing worthwhile is being offered to discuss, perhaps I get the feeling that nothing will change, perhaps I cannot stand to hear a particular person talk of their aggrandized accomplishments even one more time, and perhaps there is too much posturing about who is the best knotter, rather than hearing about and celebrating the accomplishments of all. 'Nuff said! What are your reasons?

Lindsey

That said Lindsey, I hope you are planning to come home again for the 25th Anniversary meeting in May 2007

Gordon

You bet Gordon!

I wouldn’t miss it for the world and have been saving up my pennies (I wanted to say cents, but it sounded like sense and I don’t have enough to save, having used it all!). Charlie Bell is also planning on coming and I think we can persuade him to bring his astoundingly good frames with him. Any ideas on location yet?

Lindsey

The Diary Page is now up to date with all the ‘Meetings’ we know about world-wide. There are still a few ‘Events’ to be put on but they mainly concern local groups. The next KM will also have the latest information in it too.

One of the reasons I like going to the meetings is seeing what other people do with knots. It gives me inspiration what to do myself.
An other reason is meeting people. I have a lot of friends I only meet on knot events by now.

And of course, it is nice to be able to talk about my hobby without getting strange looks.
