need help basic lanyard

I am a therapist and i work with disabled children. right know i am working with a child who is a boy scout and would like to make a lanyard for his whistle. He is autistic and I need some fairly basic instructions that i can follow so that i can assist him in performing the needed knots. thank you for any assistance that you can give me
