Notes on Belt with "Wide Solomon Bar"

First the link to JD’s Video on how to tie the Wide Solomon Bar, where I learned it from

I thought I give some useful info on making a belt with the Wide Solomon Bar:

I have used 5mm Polyester string (with a silk core), which I get from a German supplier.
I used the colors black, red and gold (yellow), which are the colors of the German flag to make a belt to wear during the wold cup.

The most important thing to know is that not all ends need to be equally long, as two ends are just passive.
Cow hitch the strings around the buckle in such a way that you have a long and a short end for the outer strings.
The diagram below explains the details.

I hope that helps to give an idea about the material needed to tie a belt, without wasting to much string.
I finished the belt by cutting of the two outer strings (1 and 6) and melted the ends. Now there are 4 ends to work with. I did two more steps of a normal
solomon bar around the two strands in the middle. Cut the ends and melted them and had a nice tapered end (not shown on the photo).

Thank you for this. I have seen many videos and tutorials on this and although they are very helpful and informative I have found the finer intricacies of perfecting the weave and finishing the design are usually left out. This has really helped and it’s a great design. Thank you for sharing this!
