Ok, my first post so please go easy if I screw it up ;)

Guys, I “invented” this back in the 70’s as a knot for making bowstrings from paracord. I’ve looked in every place I can find and have never seen it listed anywhere. Since posting it in a forum I frequent, though, I’ve been told it’s actually an old knot that supposedly everyone knows and ties all the time but it’s apparently so common, that no one seems to have ever posted it anywhere. I want to settle it once and for all. Can any of you tell me the name if it is a common one, I mean? You guys are the experts, I trust your experience.

The last pic shows how it can be tied with a long loop on one end of the string and then quickly adjusted to fit any length of bow.

I’m curious to see how old it actually is and what it’s called.

Thanks, guys!

See ABOK 1019. It goes by a couple names, but dates back to at least 1762. It tends to be avoided in most ropework because of its tendency to jam.

The pictures are helpful, but could probably be cropped and reduced in file size.

Thank you sir! As simple as it is, I was sure it had to be used for something. I found it as a knot specific to paracord and bowstrings, so I’ll tell myself that I was the first there (lol).

Resized and cropped. Apologies.

No need to apologize. The folks without super-high speed connections will thank you for your cropping efforts.
