Possible to make rope from candy wraping paper ?

Hi guys.

This odd idea/request came up in a discussion in a friend group this weekend.

Was throwing out ideas, e.g. wrapping the papers like electrical capacitors (google search images and find how it looks inside) and interwove the papers. However, this method will require some additional wrapping using thread to keep it together - so this idea fall short. Other ideas include trying to cut the paper as interlocking forks, but won’t cut the paper because this will make it weak.

I know this is totally just stupid, but it would have been so cool being able to demonstrate a working principle next time we meet again ;D

you can make rope of just about anything. I used to shred kleenex type tissues (23cm square or so) into strips and make “rope” as something to do with my hands when I was bored in school. :innocent: These papers look long enough so you could certainly, at least technically, make rope of it. If there’s something in particular you want to do with this rope, that’s a different problem. 8) Have a web search on “paper yarn spinning” for some clues if you want to make something you intend to use.

Yes, I know how to make of bark or grass, but the candy paper is often just like 3’x3’ square and isn’t long enough to hold together when attempting to twist a bundle.

Shure. Cut strips, twist, work into cord. Easiest would be to first make two ply cord but finger-twisting it (twist each strand clockwise, while laying them around each other counter-clockwise. Then you can add a third strand the same way to the initial cord.

To have any significant strength (“escape the prison by…”) they you would have to make a fairly thick cord.
