Sailor rings

i have been quite busy lately so…anyway..

I am now able to make the rings Ashley describe in page 388 mainly number # 2424

Three lover knot rings in different wire we got full copper full stainless steel and stainless steel and brass i did not have enough time to make a full brass one yet my be this weekend…

the bottom of the rings are not welded…as i don’t have yet a small welding torch…or maybe a small dragon ! :rofl:

i might try my hand at a turkhead knot ring in wire this weekend.

Update so after a bit of elbow grease here are some turk heads rings !

One all copper and one all stainless steel.

The copper one is my first try and it is a 4 by 3 “strip” turk head and the stainless steel one (second try) is 4 by 5 “strip” turk head.

i did try also a 4x3 “square” turk head but it was too bulky.

and the carrick bend bend i must anneal the wire as it is too stiff.

Love them, Charles. How was the “workability” of the copper versus the stainless?

Little Follow up and i have learn a couple of new things along the way ! :slight_smile:

There is my first complete copper ring it consist of a four strand round braid made by the square sinnet method ABOK page 493 number 3000.

After the round braid as been done i planish it on the anvil and cut it to length.

Lastly my first and successful fusion of two non ferrous metal sterling silver and copper to close the ring.

A bit of pickle bath for a while and a little cleanup and voila my first complete ring !

I try to have a all copper ring but i was unable to melt the copper i will retry later.

Tell me what you think about it.

PS the fusion could have been better but.. not to bad for a first try i think.

Well by default copper is more soft so the “workability” is better than stainless.

but if you anneal correctly the stainless steel wire it will be about just as soft as the copper wire.
