slingshot, slingbow, knots 🎯

i have a recent interest in slingshot bows (slingbows)
and have put one together,
a bit of fun,
and DITHERED about the rubber band part, as i didn’t quite know how to tie it all together …
it ended up being sheet bends and barrel knots at the back end,
and constrictor knot with surgeon’s knot at the front end,
with 2mm polyester cord cover
(will change to 2.5mm).

any slingshot chat welcomed as i’m a complete noob,

next putting a target together,
it’s been sitting in the shed for years as i gradually get into the land of the living

twang! whoosh! thwack!

Hi Alana.

If you can look up “tarp corner tying” it may give you some ideas regarding the attachment. (Maybe for your next one…)

Be safe!

this’ll help! thanks, SS :fire:

and noted safety reminder

i’ve seen a slingshot pouch manufactured in plastic;

i’ve made one from 2.5mm polyester (Venetian blind (v.b)) cord,

similar to this knot:

except under-over weave, not 2-pass…

and formed into a cup shape,
and melt-joined together just about anywhere the segments touch each other!
it seems to work!

Tying elastic material is always a challenge. I have had success with a Zeppelin Loop as well as the Gnat Hitch.

If a lot cycles are seen, you can make a Double Gnat Hitch by starting with two half hitches instead of one, and finish the usual Gnat Hitch way.

sorry i missed your reply, roo
thanks for these!

i dug up a toy pistol crossbow that shoots suction cup darts, but pretty sturdy plastic,
i put a 400mm / 7mm dia. fiberglass tent pole through it, [edit: 8.5mm tent pole]
invested in some 3mm dyneema, for bowstring,
running through the tent pole,
took a couple of strands out of it though,

and to draw it, i tied on 2.5mm v.b cord as a handle,
using ezelius knots,
they are holding pretty well.

took the cutter rail off a box of plastic wrap, to use as arrow track

the draw weight is 14lb according to my luggage spring scale,
which makes it an outdoor bow.
i’m shooting 7" arrows, 3 to 4 meters

the dyneema is working well :bow_and_arrow:
apart from an acute angle on one of the ends of the tent pole starting some wear in the dyneema -
which i have smoothed out -
happy to report that there is no other sign of wear on it
