Solent Meeting - Shrimp Manrope & Turks Head

Another excellent meeting was held at the Solent Branch last night!!!

The main subject was the Manrope knot. quite a few people brought in examples of the knot that they had done at home.

Here is a photo of some of the fine examples that were presented to us:

The next subject was how to make shrimp from straws - boy it looked so simple but we all struggled to produce one!! It was also a relief to see Bob struggling (for once!).

Here is an example of what we were supposed to produce:

Bob then gave a presentation on how to tie the two bite and as many leads as you want Turks Head to cover large lengths. I was so impressed I made sure that I had a one-on-one session with him. My next task is to do one on my own to see if I remember what he showed me?

Also whilst there I spotted Kens knife lanyard and thought that it deserved a place on this site:

I won a prize in the raffle, a very beautiful hand made wooden fid:

And Finally thank you to Ken for giving me two very old Manual of Seamanship Vol I & II, one of them still held together with original “Pussers Maskers”.

Another good night of learning and fun!!!

John,

Nice report thank you,
