Hi Folks
I am doing several eye splices for a forthcoming demonstration.
I have referred to Wayne Johnsons videos for the rarer ones, Riggers. Levers etc.
I have completed 5 of the 6 he shows but for the life of me I cannot get the Maidens eye splice right.
I relay one strand around the eye, follow (as I can see) his instructions on completing the splice.
It appear to be correct until I go to do the over/unders for the second tuck and I keep ending up with one strand needing to go under a strand which already has a strand under it.
I am obviously doing it wrong somewhere but after numerous attempts, cannot see where.
All help appreciated.
Regards
Brian
Hmmm, and I’m thinking “Isn’t this the ‘Flemish eye’ ?!”
–but that’s a separate issue.
Am I correct in placing your point of trouble somewhere
after the point 5:50 in the video? --as you say, in the
over/under tuckings of strands?!
I don’t have an answer, now, but it should become clear
in the run from 7:30-8:30 and those tucks --noting that
one tucks “under two” (which can be seen as under 1 but
in opp. direction), and then the careful placement of the
following ones.
As for the guy’s assertions of “strongest” / “fairest”,
I don’t fully understand : as the tucking is just like that
of other 3-strand splices, and breakage comes at the
eye-away end not at the eye side, and tucks there
are, as said, like others --and could be tapered,
by strand or fiber, to maybe gain strength.
Then again, who would ever know, in practice! ?!

Thanks for the reply.
After the umpteenth try I have finally got it working properly. The problem lay in the strand being tucked after the under two part.
Thanks
