I was away for a show and returned so late in the evening that the chat was empty, (already, still?)

The chat is a here and now, a you have to be there or you have missed it kind of thing.
I have made notes of one or two chat sessions, because there where things discussed I need to pass on to others, but it is hard to read and even harder to follow.
And it is against the traditions of chatting to publish a log as far as I know.
I would like one of the other chatters to respond on this question, since my oppinion is just an oppinion, not a rule.
Like Willeke said - I guess you just have to be there. It is not possible to record all that is said unless you spend your time just copying everything and not paying attention to what is said - it is “chat” in the literal sense of the word where you have to catch what is being said. Unless you are in the habit of copying down stuff that is said in your normal conversations…? I hope you can join in sometime…

I’m still around. Haven’t been chatting lately as I moved house and don’t have internet at home yet. I can’t make it next weekend, but after that if anyone is interested in a chat Sunday evening or monday morning Aussie time I’d be in.
I am trying to get on the chat today, but for some reason the chatroom does not show up on my screen.
I keep trying and hope to be in a little later today.
It’s a specific Internet Explorer problem and the issue isn’t on the
IGKT web site but at everywherechat itself.
So us poor IE users will need to find a way around it till the problem is solved.
We will have a chat today, but might need to find a different location again, or use a different way to get into the chat.

For those of you who like to join into the chat but for whatever reason can not join on the Sunday (evening English time) Dan Callahan, also known as knot_tyer and the owner of the Alaska Museum of Fancy Knots, runs a chat on the Saturday.

Sorry - I am not convinced it is ‘everywhere chat’ and an IE problem - it has worked well on my PC up until last week, and I am able to access Dans ‘everywhere chat’ with no problems - so why not via IGKT.NET?
Attemtping to login via the IGKT web site using the same two browsers yielded identical results.
I repeated the experiment at 16:21 today - again, with exactly the same results.
Conclusion: the error is IE specific and relates to an issue with a script being used on irc.everywherechat.com:8000 - not the IGKT site.
All our pages do is link to http://irc.everywherechat.com:8000/ and that link is working fine. I have also checked both chat pages on the IGKT site using both on and off line validators and there are no errors reported.

Sorry for any inconveniences. We’re in the middle of moving to a new server. If it seems like the rooms are empty, that’s why. It should sort itself out over the next day or two. If you run into any problems, let someone know in #support or let us know by emailing staff@everywherechat.com
Now I have no way of knowing what date(s) that message relates to or whether it has anything to do with the current login problem. However, it is possible that a server test and migration could create such a problem and that the problem might be intermittent as the service is ported over to the new server, tested and then returned to the old server.
I have emailed staff@everywherechat.com with a full description of the problem and I am still awaiting a reply.
If anyone has reason to think that the problem lies elsewhere, I’d be very interested in hearing where and why.
Knot_Chat (Dan’s room)

The former is working. The latter, which I set up when asked to create a room and which was working until recently, isn’t working right now. This further supports the idea that this is a server migration problem. What I don’t know is which room is on which server - old or new. Even if I try changing the link on the IGKT site to Dan’s room, there’s no guarantee that it will continue to work longer term.
I suspect that they are moving the newer rooms over to the new server first (that makes sense as newer rooms are likely to be less popular and, therefore, make better beta-testing subjects). IGKT_Knot_Chat has been moved to the new server (with new scripts) and has promptly stopped working in IE - probably because someone forgot to test the new scripts in that browser (everywherchat actually promote Firefox s opposed to IE, so almost certainly use it themselves).
Knot_Chat (the older room) is likely to still be on the old server using the old scripts. If/when it moves and if they haven’t corrected the script problem, it will also stop working in IE.
Now I can switch the link over on the IGKT site but I cannot guarantee the older chat room will be accessible using IE longer term. That’s down to everywherechat.com.
I do have the same problem when using Opera as my web browser. The applet window doesn’t show at all!!!

Which version of Opera are you using? You do have Java and javascript enabled. yes? I’ll try to look into it.

The markup on Dan’s site isn’t valid, so it’s throwing IE into Quirks rendering mode which causes IE to ignore the bug in the everywherechat script. The markup on the IGKT site is standards compliant, so IE remains in Strict mode, hits the bug and shudders to a halt.
After a lot of experimenting over two machines, we located the bug trigger and I’ve applied a patch to the site to deal with it. Sorry but it’s a really sloppy script from what I can tell and the support people and everywherechat don’t seem interested in the bug report. The patch should fix things but the bug itself must be causing some real headaches for other webmasters. It’s one of the most bizarre behaviours I’ve ever come across and completely undocumented!
