Sunday again

It is time for the chat, like each sunday.

You can open the chat from the main site, following this link: http://www.igkt.net/chat/index.html or to go to the chat you can also click on the knotchat link in today’s calendar events, on the general page of this forum.

Besides all these options you can also go to an other chat (like on knot tyers chatpage) and move on within the chatrooms.

If you have problems to get in the chat, for whatever reason, post a message here. While the chat runs we do keep an eye out to this place and might be able to help you immediatly.
If that is not posible this is still the right place to get those problems sorted.

The chat will be open from now, for at least the next 5 hours.

Willeke

The knot chat does not appear to be working properly,
It’s just spat me out and nothing seemed to work in the room?
anyone else got problems

also won’t open now?

barry

I am trying to get back in too, not even the starting place yet.

Willeke

I think I will have to give up,
at least next week we will have a real room to chat in, nice
Take care all, speak soon,
Barry 8)

Sunday, Chat-day,
and after having been late for a few weeks, I am in again today.

Willeke

I have been online for over four hours today, and there was a total of 3 people online, me included.
While I do not mind spending some time online doing other things, I do not consider this a good use of my sunday evening.

So I will sugest new hours for the chat.
We have been open from English time 5 pm till about 11 pm, this is most of the sunday morning in Alaska, Sunday afternoon on the American east coast and the evening hours for most of Europe.
I would sugest a shorter time but I would like to hear your opinion before changing the times.

So let me know what time you are likely to log on, so I can find a time that peopla are really there.

Willeke

Since nobody reacted on the last post I feel free not to open up the chat on the sunday till 7 PM english time.
I will post here when I open the chat later today.

Willeke

Open for a few hours, come and see if we are still in.

no luck for me. i use firefox (high security settings) on a mac powerbook. also tried safari (low security settings). also tried iChat on the powerbook. also tried gaim on my linux box.

with gaim i managed to get logged into the server, but there was no IGKT_Knot_Chat channel despite the web page showing that 8 members were logged on. later logged off due to “lack of response”, when i tried logging in again, i was disconnected and “throttled” (sounds unpleasant, eh? 8) no more encouraging progress after that.

i can count on one hand the times i’ve used IRC, so it could be something basic that i’m missing.

High security settings? In Firefox? I’m using Win Firefox 1.5.0.5 and I can’t find any reference to a ‘high security setting’.

also tried safari (low security settings).

I don’t use Safari myself but a colleague of mine uses a Mac to access a chat room on the same server without any problems. Not sure if he uses Safari or IE normally.

also tried iChat on the powerbook. also tried gaim on my linux box.

These are both instant messaging applications similar to MS Messenger or AIM. They won’t work on this type of one-to-many chat.

If you have access to a linux box, you should be able to choose from a number of IRC clients.

http://www.linux.org/apps/all/Networking/IRC-1.html?sort=author

lists quite a few.

Also, if you’re running a network, make sure that your router/firewall isn’t blocking traffic from everywherechat.com. If you choose to access via http, make sure you have both Java and javascript enabled.

wrt high security firefox, there is no single high security setting. but have it set to scripts are turned off by default and individually enabled on a case by case basis. ads are blocked, etc, etc.

gaim claims to do IRC… will look into getting another irc client eventually.

How Do all
It be Sunday again, don’t forget the knot chat. Please pop in and say hello, even if thats all you do:)

Take care,
Barry ;D

Glad to hear it wasn’t just me missing something then.

but have it set to scripts are turned off by default and individually enabled on a case by case basis. ads are blocked, etc, etc.

I’ve blocked ads too - so that’s unlikely to be the problem. Could be a script issue. Are you getting any sort of alert?

I do know that the certificate on everywherechat.com is faulty. I think that date is either incorrect or it’s expired (can’t recall which). Could FF be rejecting it for that reason? I do recall having to specifically accept the faulty certificate when I was testing the chat a while back.

gaim claims to do IRC... will look into getting another irc client eventually.

Did you try connecting with gaim? What settings were you using? What error did you get? I could possibly look into running gaim under Cygwin to see if I can get in (assuming gaim has been packaged for Cygwin).

As every sunday we have the knot chat again.
http://www.igkt.net/chat/index.html
Open from now for at least 5 hours.

Willeke

A good chat we had too - with members from UK, USA, The Netherlands, Lithuania, Pakistan and Norway = a true International flavour.

Gordon

What time would the chat room be operating in Australian Time. Would be interested to get involved. ???

Sledge,
can you tell us what time will be good for you?
That is day and time localy and which part of OZ, and convert it to European or American times so we can set up a session.

If several people are interrested in running a chat at any regular time they can use the chatroom, just announce the time and be there.

Willeke

Thanks for your reply Willeke. I dont think I will be able to make the chat room. Just did the conversion. In Melbourne, Victoria, we are 10 hours ahead of you. e.g. Sunday Noon, London time = Sunday 10 p.m. Melbourne time. Ah well. Will keep reading the forum and sticking my 2 bob’s worth in. Great Forum, read it with intrest often.

Sledge,
If you want to chat, let us try a time.

Sunday Noon, London time = Sunday 10 p.m. Melbourne time

Would Saturday 10AM London time= Saturday 8 PM Melbourne be sensible to you?
It will not be posible this weekend, many of the regular chatters in England and here are on different shows, but if you think this time is feasable we can try for a Saturday in September.
I go for a Saturday rather than a Sunday because on Sunday I am already 5 hours on the chat most weeks.

I would like all members in the rest of the world to have a look at this time and add their own local time and whether they can join in or not, and if they want to come chatting.

Willeke

Hi Willeke,
As you know, I never seem to make my free time work for the “Chat” as much as I wish I could. Since my personal situation has changed a bit I tried again and still can’t make it work. So… I suspect that good stuff happens on Chat. Is there a Chat log or a copy of the conversations that I could view? I know that much of what may have been said may not be on point… but I could perhaps read hours of chat in a minute or two and skim off the cream? What do you think? Even reading Forum… There is plenty there but often several posts come down to one or two fine points. Since it is Forum I can get through many posts in a few minutes, jot or copy the salient points, maybe Chat can be the same? Just a thought.
I’ve been practicing IM with some online buddies. I am too slow, too limited, too much tending to put my foot in my mouth… so I can’t see “Chat” working for me.
