I got interested in Turks Head knots when I made my first woggle, a 3Lx5B (I think). I decided to try a long Turks Head on a hiking staff and while the result looks great in the middle, there are some problems at the ends.
I think the problem comes from following an explanation that did not have enough detail. I need to understand more about leads and bights amd how to determine what over/under patterns I need to follow for a given knot.
I’ve found lots of example videos, and some very detailed pages on patterning that I’m not really understanding. Is there a website or a book that clearly shows over/under patterns for specific lead/bight knots?
I 'm really enjoying this and would feel much happier if my ends were more solid. Any help is appreciated!
Welcome to the forum. Tom Hall’s Intro to Turk’s Heads is a tremendous help in learning the TH and other knots. You can get a copy of Intro to TH by Hall from Marty Combs’ site at: http://www.angelfire.com/ak/skateworld/index.html
I don’t know if you’re on facebook, but there’s a group called The mighty turkshead knot. Their “files” section has some of Sidney Woods works and it also has a pdf of T Hall’s “Intro to THs”. Hope that helps.
By the ends aren’t quite right do you mean that the ends don’t quite maintain an over/under pattern? If so, I might be able to help you create a regular tall turks head. My own concern is that I am not sure I can provide a proper explanation over the internet; but I am willing to try. I have recently learned how to expand a two bight tall turks head; however, I have yet to learn how to expand an odd bight tall turks head.

Please be aware that some of the Files within this Group breach copyright as they do not have the author’s/publisher’s permission to make the books available in digital format, and it is illegal to download them.
I know the original message was posted here some time ago, but this has only just been brought to my attention.
I know that this thread is rather old now but I can’t recommend the following youtube channel enough when it comes to turks heads, was a life saver when i first started.
